Get Your Game On While Spending Less With Groupon

This is a sponsored post. All opinions are mine.

In a world full of technology where you can do almost anything on your computer, it's easy to forget the value of money. I remember how i spent a month's worth of salary to buy a handheld gaming console years ago. Games and Computers are what made my childhood extra fun. I still play from time to time but gone are the days when i would buy something on an impulse. Groupon serves me like my conscience telling me to think twice before buying anything. We all have bills to pay and lives to live. The last thing i'd want to worry about is how to have fun while playing.

It's exciting to see the innovation of technology and games especially since I can find it for a much lower price in the Electronics section of Groupon Goods. The cool gaming consoles like Sony Playstation 4 and Microsoft Xbox One  are just waiting for grabs. I'm now leaning more towards getting myself a Playstation and this pretty much sealed the deal for me.

A gaming console is only as good as the actual games that you can play on it. Games which you can easily purchase from the savings you get when you shop at Groupon. Can you just imagine? It's like a gift that keeps on giving. Now I can work hard and play harder!

Do you have any game consoles you've been wanting to buy at Groupon?

Majority of Philippines’ Workforce Lead Largely Sedentary Lifestyles, Putting them at Risk of Obesity

The findings of the new Nutrition At Work Survey as released by Herbalife, a global nutrition company, revealed that the majority of Philippines’ workforce leads largely sedentary lifestyles, putting them at risk of obesity,  The Survey, which was designed to understand the lifestyle habits and attitudes of Asia Pacific’s modern workforce, was conducted in March with 5,500 full-time workers in 11 Asia-Pacific markets, including 500 workers from the Philippines.

According to the survey findings, almost nine out of 10 (85%) workers in the Philippines spend at least six hours a day sitting at their desk, with 52% of its workforce eating lunch at their work desk two to five times per week. The survey also revealed that majority of Philippines’ workforce (86%) exercise less than three times per week, with five out of 10 getting less than 30 minutes of physical activity a day at their workplace. This suggests a significantly worrying trend locally, on the back of rising obesity rates recorded in recent years.

Nevertheless, the risk of obesity could be averted if workers in the Philippines decide to take control over their own nutritional intake and exercise regimen. Close to eight out of 10 workers(75%) affirmed that they strive to live a healthy, active life, however, the majority of them noted that they find it difficult to stay active during workdays.

With a majority of Philippines’ workforce leading largely sedentary lifestyles, our mission as a global nutrition company is to help people in thePhilippinestake practical steps towards leading healthy, active lives.By inculcating positive nutrition and active lifestyle habits to people in the Philippines, we hope that this will, over time, help reduce obesity risks and lead to positive improvements to the well-being of our people,”said Mr. Rosalio Valenzuela, General Manager of Herbalife Philippines.

Aimed at addressing health issues associated with sedentary lifestyles, and deepening practical understanding on the benefits of healthy, active lifestyles, Herbalife launched its fifth Asia Pacific Wellness Tour 2016, held in the months of April and May. The latest edition of the Wellness Tour builds upon the successes of the past four tours that welcomed more than 80,000 participants across the region, and features a host of medical symposiums, talks and workshops led by seven experts from Herbalife’s Nutrition Advisory Board (NAB), covering 26 cities across Australia, Cambodia, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Japan, Korea, Macau, New Zealand, Philippines, Singapore, Taiwan, Thailand and Vietnam.

Gary Small, M.D. has recently visitedthecountry and shared his expert views on digital dementia and brain aging at the “A Smart Way to Healthy Aging: A Talk by Gary Small, M.D.” event.Dr. Small, a specialist in brain health and aging, has authored over 500 scientific works and received numerous awards and honors, including the "Senior Investigator Award" from the American Association for Geriatric Psychiatry.

During the talk Dr. Smalladdressed health and nutrition related issues associated with sedentary lifestyles and share practical tips on how today’s workforce can live healthier lives by making simple changes to their daily lifestyles. Health and medical professionals, academics, as well as the general public have also engaged in lively dialogues with Dr. Smallat the event, and had the chance to network with like-minded professionals through the Herbalife Asia-Pacific Wellness Tour platform.

Rounding up the team of Herbalife NAB experts who have participated in the Asia-Pacific Wellness Tour are:

  • · Dr. David Heber, chairman of the Herbalife Nutrition Institute and Nutrition Advisory Board. A leading expert in the field of nutrition, named as one of “The World’s Most Influential Scientific Minds” by Thomson Reuters in 2014 and repeatedly included in “The Best Doctors in America”.
  • · Dr. Chin-Kun Wang, an expert in metabolism and nutrition, with a focus on the clinical evaluation of nutritional supplements, nutraceuticals, functional foods and herbs. He was awarded the National Award of Biomedicine in Taiwan in 2008 for his contribution to medical education.
  • · Dr. Julian Alvarez Garcia, a specialist in sports medicine and sports physiology who has advised professional teams, national teams and individual athletes on a range of disciplines including weightlifting, triathlons, mountain biking, football and basketball.
  • · Dr. Darren Burgess, an expert in sports science and nutrition who has authored papers in multiple peer review journals. He is also the current Head of High Performance at Port Adelaide Football (AFL) Club, and the former Head of Fitness and Conditioning at Liverpool Football Club.
  • · Dr. NatanielViuniski, an expert in pediatrics and nutrition who has authored “Childhood Obesity – A Practical Guide”. He is also currently an advisor to Brazil's Health and Education Ministry for Childhood Obesity.
  • · Dr. Francis Gregory Samonte, one of the Philippines’ premier experts in pediatric neurology, and the first Filipino appointed to the NAB. He was a recipient of the Chairman’s Achievement Award from the University of Louisville, Kentucky’s Department of Pediatrics.
The NAB experts were also joined by Dr. Luigi Gratton, Herbalife’s vice president of nutrition education and development, who has written numerous articles on nutrition and obesity, and has appeared on television speaking on nutrition, anti-aging medicine, sports nutrition and other medical topics.

With each new edition of the Wellness Tour, we are seeing an increasing number of people gain practical knowledge to lead better lives. We hope that that this year’s Tour will further empower people to take charge of their nutritional intake and exercise regimen, so that they can enjoy the full benefits of a healthy, active life,” Mr. Valenzuela concluded.

Quezon City–Three out of five women have experienced a form of sexual harassment while commuting in Metro Manila, according to a new research, “Baseline Study on How safe are women in our city streets” commissioned by Quezon City local government and United Nations Entity for Gender Equality and Women’s Empowerment (UN Women). And even more alarming is that 1 in 3 of these women experienced the worst forms of sexual harassment such as witnessing male public exposure and masturbation, and rubbing or groping (panghihipo) inside the MRT/ jeepneys.

To put a stop to street harassment and sexual violence against women and girls (SVAWG) in public spaces, the LGU and UN Women held back-to-back eventsto commemorate International Women’s Day (#IWD2016) as well as to kick-off the celebrations in March as the National Women’s Month.

The first was a press conference at the QCX Museum, which saw the launch of the research, also revealed that the Quezon City Local Government just passed amendments to the Gender and Development Code increasing penalties for sexual harassment and sexual violence against women in public spaces to a range of one to five thousand pesos (Php1,000 to Php5,000) for the varying severity of offenses.

Whether due to shame or fear, women traditionally ignore and keep silent about catcalls, wolf-whistling, stalking, repeated harassment for their numbers, even bearing indecent language being yelled at them by men as they walk by.Women experience all these forms of sexual harassment as they move about in the city, using public transport, terminals, markets/malls, and even just walking home in their own neighborhoods.

During the press conference discussing the problem of the frequent street harassment of women, De Castro observed, "We know about it, we are offended by it, but we don't know how to prevent it." The research reported that eighty-eight percent (88%)of women aged 18-24 years, have experienced some form of sexual harassment in their lives, but more than half do not report or do anything about it.

This is why the LGU partnered with UN Women to implement the Safe Cities and Safe Public Spaces Global Initiative. QC is the first city in Metro Manila to be one of over 24 cities around the world in the programme to stop street harassment and sexual violence against women and girls (SVAWG) in public spaces with funding from Spanish Agency for International Cooperation and Development (AECID).

The second event was a grand assembly of 1000 supporters who released sky lanterns to light up the Quezon City skyline and called for safe cities where women are free from fear and free from all forms of street harassment and sexual violence.

It was a visual spectacle where supporters of women’s right to safety in the city banded together to celebrate the spirit of community fighting to stop street harassment of women. Hosted by PTV4’s Good Morning Boss talents, Jules Guiang and Karla Paderna, the event was graced by musical performances from Cooky Chua and Bayang Barrios.

Guiang expressed, “This is such an important issue and we are grateful that for the first timewe have a programme on women’s safety in public spaces and educating everyone that sexual harassment of women in any form is not acceptable.”

Children at the Crossroads: A photo exhibit

War is not clean. War is not easy. War does not involve only armed combatants. War affects everyone: men, women, especially children. Armed and unarmed.

A child walking along the road of displaced families. A five-year old boy in Camp Afghan by the side of his grandfather, a combatant of the Bangsamoro Islamic Armed Forces. Children praying at dawn by the side of their makeshift tents along the highway. These snapshots were captured by the lenses of the celebrated photographer, Jun de Leon, as he visited Maguindanao, days after the Mamapasano incident in January.

Entitled, “Children at the Crossroads: Windows to Healing in Mindanao,” Jun de Leon’s photographs
with stories by An Alcantara was put on display from March 7-8 at the Fisher Mall, Quezon City. This exhibit is the 3rd of the series of exhibits which aims to raise awareness on the effects and impact of armed conflict in the Bangsamoro on children.

This exhibit is organized by the Office of the Presidential Adviser on the Peace Process (OPAPP), in
partnership with the Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporation (PAGCOR), Fisher Mall and Universal Robina Corporation Jack ‘n Jill Puff Corn.
